I have been paying for Instant Ink for about two years

office jet 4650
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had my HP OfficeJet 4650 for nearly two years. I have been paying  $5.29 per month (including tax.) At the beginning, HP sent me two cartridges. That was a very long time ago. The printer display tells me it requires new instant ink, while my Instant Ink account says it does not. The approximately $126.50 (including tax) that I have paid, could have purchased two new printers.

I wonder why I have been paying for something I am not receiving? I guess I am beyond an idiot. But, having read some of the messages, I wonder if I use other(non-instant ink) HP cartridges if my printer will refuse to print.
