HP Instant Ink customer since purchasing my HP ENVY 7855 All-in-One printer. Connected wireless and all worked great until a cartridge error that states the black "cartridge is not communicating correctly with the printer". Tried the various troubleshooting options, via the HP help and virtual assistant, including cleaning the contacts and trying new HP Instant Ink cartridges - no luck. I even went out and purchased a genuine HP cartridge from the store, which will not work either. Not able to use single cartridge print mode, even though color cartridge appears ok. I also replaced the color cartridge and cleaned those contacts as well, but still no luck.

I understand you are not able to use the Instant Ink cartridge.
Check if the ink cartridges are properly inserted in the printer, you may refer to - Replace HP inkjet printer cartridges
Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - Ink cartridge error
