HP Envy 7155
macOS 10.15 Catalina

I have a bunch of HP Envy 7155s that I use with Instant Ink. I've been using Instant Ink for 2+ years and have had a lot of issues with ink smears on the page. I am printing on a specialized paper, which is part of the problem, but over time I've realized that it's the gigantic Instant Ink cartridges that are the problem. When I get a new printer it works fine with the starter cartridges, but as soon as I put in a big one, I get smears. Same thing if I use non-Instant ink--I don't get smears. As the cartridges deplete (and are lighter), I have fewer issues. But in general, I have to print a few pages, manually clean the printers, and then print again.

I had solved this problem by using a third party print driver that let me control ink output. However, something has changed--I just set up several new Envys and the third party driver is no longer working and I'm back to smeared ink.

The obvious solution is to switch printers or Instant Ink, but you can't beat the Instant Ink price and I need my ongoing printer output to color match my older stuff and I've had trouble color matching the HP inks with other printer brands.

My dream solution would be for HP to send smaller Instant Ink cartridges! They used to send gigantic black ones too, but now they've made those smaller. I wish the color ones would be smaller as well.
