Instant HP Ink fault

Twice now my colour ink cartridge that i received directly from HP themselves has been having issues with connecting to the printer therefore showing a fault and not allowing me to print. This is the second time it has done this the first time i managed to restart my printer by the normal troubleshooting steps and cleaned the cartridge which solved the issue the first time this time however all the steps followed again haven't worked, I'm part of the plan that HP offer and now being told i need to buy my own cartridge to try and solve the issue, as they wont send me out another one until i have resolved it (even though i pay for the service they offer) is there anything else i can try before having to pay out the money of a cartridge? Anyone else have issues from products directly from HP
