I have never signed up for Instant Ink [edit] How do I gain control of my printing needs without joining Instant Ink!

Hi @JayDEthan,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you don't want to sign up for HP Instant Ink and wish to maintain control of your printing needs, here’s what you can do:
1. Skip Instant Ink Enrollment
During the printer setup process (using the HP Smart app or software), you might be prompted to sign up for Instant Ink. You can choose to skip this step. Look for a "No, thanks" or "Skip" option when prompted. HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
2. Manual Ink Cartridge Management
Instead of using Instant Ink, you can manage your ink manually by purchasing cartridges directly from HP and whenever your ink runs low. Keep an eye on your printer's ink levels through the HP Smart app or by printing a status report from the printer itself.
3. Printer Settings Adjustments
You can control your printer settings to optimize ink usage:
- Draft Mode: Print in draft mode for less ink consumption (this may reduce print quality slightly).
- Black-and-White Printing: Print in black and white if color isn’t necessary.
- Duplex Printing: Enable duplex (double-sided) printing to save paper.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
