Joined up to the Instant Ink subscription deal when I bought a new printer a few weeks back. Knew the setup cartridges wouldn't last long so bought an extra set at the same time. Set up ones duly ran out so installed the genuine HP new ones. Supposedly the Instant Ink black one is on it's way (not holding my breath) but it's saying Colour one can't be assessed as it's not a genuine Instant Ink cartridge. So how come it accepted the black one? Also how can you install Instant Ink cartridges if you haven't even received them yet?

I see that you are not able to use a regular HP color ink cartridge. It is supposed to work fine. Let us try these steps:
Restart the printer.
Restart weeb services:
Click here to know how to turn off web services. Refer to this document to know how to turn it on.
Try the color ink cartridge. If the issue persists, kindly contact the Instant Ink department in your region for assistance. The contact information can be found on the home page of Instant Ink. Click here or go to HP Instant Ink support

It seems the replies I have received are not correlating to the problems at hand.
1. I bought a new printer which came with a set of start up cartridges
2 Knowing these wouldn't last long I also bought a set of genuine HP cartridges.
3. Set up printer & subscribed to Instant Ink program
4. Got all the confirmation emails from Instant Ink which said new cartridges were on the way.
5. Checked where they were and it states that black has been dispatched and this is what is on my site:
