Hello there, I cancelled instant ink subscription back in December, I’ve bought cartridges from the shop but I can’t print !! It’s validating the cartridges over and over again!! Does that means the only way to print is when you subscribe to instant ink?? I don’t want to, what do I do?

@Karo88, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer stuck at validation!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2820e is still recognizing the previous Instant Ink subscription and preventing the use of standard cartridges. Here’s what you can do:
Check the Cartridge Type:
- Make sure you’re using regular HP cartridges (not Instant Ink ones). Instant Ink cartridges stop working once the subscription is canceled.
Restart and Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it for 2-3 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Remove and Reinsert Cartridges:
- Take out the new cartridges, clean the metal contacts with a dry cloth, and reinsert them.
Check Printer Firmware:
- If your printer has updated firmware, it might be blocking non-Instant Ink cartridges.
- Go to HP Support and check if a rollback is available.
Reset the Printer to Factory Settings:
- Press and hold the Cancel + Wireless buttons (or check your printer’s manual for reset instructions).
- This removes any lingering Instant Ink settings.
Check HP Smart App:
- Open HP Smart on your phone or PC and check if there's an alert regarding Instant Ink.
- If it still mentions Instant Ink, try removing the printer from your HP account and re-adding it.
Let me know if any of these steps help! 🚀
Take care, and have an amazing day!
