Hi @Ellen0120,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY 5660 e-All-in-One Printer is displaying an error about not recognizing the ink status, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check Ink Cartridges: Make sure the ink cartridges are properly installed and seated correctly. Remove and reinstall them to ensure they are firmly in place.
  • Clean Ink Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and unplug it. Remove the ink cartridges and gently clean the contacts on both the cartridges and the printer using a lint-free cloth and a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Allow them to dry completely before reinstalling them.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website.
  • Reset the Printer: Perform a hard reset by turning off the printer, unplugging it from the power source, waiting for about a minute, and then plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • Check Ink Cartridge Compatibility: Verify that you are using the correct ink cartridges for your printer model. Sometimes, third-party or refilled cartridges can cause recognition issues.
  • Clean the Printhead: If the problem persists, you might need to clean the printhead. This can usually be done through the printer’s maintenance menu. Consult the printer manual for specific instructions.
  • Try New Ink Cartridges: If none of the above steps work, try replacing the ink cartridges with new, genuine HP cartridges to see if that resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
