Hi @Janepatofl,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When you install a new ink cartridge in your HP printer and it doesn't print correctly, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check if the Protective Tape is Removed: Ensure that the protective tape on the nozzle of the new ink cartridge has been fully removed. Sometimes, small bits of tape or plastic can be overlooked and can block the ink from flowing.

Run the Cleaning Cycle: Use your printer’s software to run a cleaning cycle. This can help to clear any clogged print heads. For HP printers, you can typically find this option in the printer maintenance menu on your computer or on the printer's display screen.

Align the Printer Cartridges: After installing new cartridges, it’s a good idea to align them. This can be done through the printer’s control panel or software on your computer. This ensures that the print heads are correctly aligned with the paper.

Check Ink Levels: Even though the cartridges are new, it’s worth checking the ink levels to ensure the printer is recognizing them correctly. Sometimes, a printer might not detect a new cartridge, and it may report it as empty.

Inspect the Cartridge and Printer Contacts: Dirty or damaged contacts can prevent the cartridge from being recognized by the printer. Gently clean the gold or copper contacts on both the cartridge and the printer using a soft, lint-free cloth. Be careful not to touch the contacts with your fingers.

Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait about a minute, and then turn it back on. This can reset the system and may resolve any error states.

Reinstall the Cartridge: Remove the cartridge and reinstall it to ensure it’s properly seated in the cartridge holder.

Check for Printer Updates: Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can usually find any available updates on the HP website or through the HP software on your computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
