New ink cartridges installation error message

HI, My first time on this community. The problem is as follows:

 

I have just received replacement black and colour HP cartridges as part of my HP instant ink contract. I fitted both of them but get an error message on the printer that says "Ink cartridge problem, remove and re-install ink cartridge (assume its the black cartridge as black circle with cross indicated in error message).

I have tried to remove and re-install several time. I have cleaned the contacts on the cartridges and in the printer. I can also confirm that the printer firmware is up to date and I have switch the printer off for 60 seconds as directed by the self help online. The printer was ok immediately before I changed the cartridges. I have even re-installed  the old cartridges back into the machine but get the same error message. I'm an engineer and also manage a software company so issues like this are not alien to me.  Could it be a faulty black cartridge?  Any help would be appreciated.
