I enrolled on the HP instant ink service and all worked fine for a while. Then I stopped receiving cartridges and had to go and buy my own colour cartridge. The printer would not communicate with the HP instant ink service for some reason. So I un-enrolled from the instant ink service and now, miraculously, the HP instant ink service can talk to my printer and turn the cartridge off.
Can you explain why my printer won't talk to the HP instant ink service to tell it that the cartridges are getting low, but the HP instant ink service is able to turn the cartridges off when I un-enroll from the service.
You are now holding my printer to ransom and this is not acceptable. I think the HP instant ink service is a good idea, but clearly doesn't work very well.
How can I get my printer working again?

Hi @IanJarvis,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When you sign up for an HP Instant Ink plan, you pay a monthly fee to print a defined number of pages per month. The plans are based on the number of pages that you print, not on how many ink cartridges you use. Ink cartridges are automatically shipped out when the ink cartridges are low on ink. You will not be paying for the ink cartridges. Hence, you will not be able to print using the HP instant ink cartridges after you cancel the subscription. You need to purchase both the normal cartridges from the store and return the instant ink cartridges. (The printer will work after you remove the black instant ink cartridge and install the one purchased from the store)
You may check the instant ink terms and conditions from the link: https://instantink.hpconnected.com/uk/en/terms
HP monitors the ink levels only when your printer is connected to the Internet and Web Services are turned on. Hence, you need to keep the printer connected to internet to receive ink regularly before they are empty.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
