HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer

My 8710 is now only printing in black even though the three color cartridges show an adequate amount of ink.  I've removed the printer and drivers and reinstalled everythjing with no change.

I am a Instant INK account holder and have been paying my monthly charges. The status page shows the warranty for the color cartridges has ended in 2022. Is it possible these have gone bad?

Hi @Hizhonor,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is only printing in black despite having adequate ink in the color cartridges, and you've already tried reinstalling the printer and drivers, there are a few more steps you can take.

  • Check Ink Cartridge Condition: Even if the cartridges show adequate ink levels, they might have dried up or become clogged. Try performing a printhead cleaning or alignment through the printer’s settings menu.
  • Clean Printhead: Sometimes, a clogged printhead can prevent color ink from being used. Refer to the printer’s manual for instructions on how to clean the printhead manually.
  • Replace Cartridges: Since the warranty on the color cartridges has ended, it’s possible they might have gone bad or dried up. Try replacing them with new cartridges, even if the current ones appear to have ink left.
  • Check Print Settings: Ensure that the printer settings on your computer are set to print in color. Sometimes, the printer might be set to print in grayscale or black and white by default.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve printing issues. Check if there are any available updates for your printer model and install them.
  • Run Printer Diagnostics: HP printers often have built-in diagnostics tools. Use these to check for issues related to color printing.
  • Check the Ink Cartridge Contacts: Make sure the contacts on the ink cartridges and inside the printer are clean and free from any obstructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
