I canceled the automatic ink and paper. I had to buy my own ink once and my own paper three times and they had the audacity to charge me for extra sheets! So I canceled the subscription (had to do that twice) and now I can't print because they say the cartridges were under the subscription. To add injury to insult, there was no color cartridge included when I purchased the printer. So I tried to re-enroll and the system remains locked. AI was no help. Anyone have a solution? If not, it will be the Better Business Bureau next.

Welcome to the HP Community --
True >> The subscription cartridges remain the property of HP.
Some people do miss this -- the information is in the contract and in the support documents.
True > Subscription cartridges only work with an active subscription to the service.
Information on how the service works is noted in the contract and in the support documents.
True -- these details might not matter to you now -- just be aware when / if you go after this matter later.
What else?
The cancel process is not instantaneous -- worse, it is likely slower than you like -- there are final billing cycles, for example. No, I do not know how long the final process takes to complete.
The HP Virtual Agent cannot help with a tangled enrollment process and issues with an account.
What? The HPVA is not AI, it is a program that is dependent on a database for its answers.
Who can help?
No Instant Ink Subscription and no wish to have a subscription:
The usual solution is to remove all the Instant Ink cartridges from the printer >>
Purchase and install a full set of new HP cartridges
