I was in the same boat except the reason for buying a new printer was that the old one wasn't printing several colours.

No problem I thought. I will add my new printer, cancel my old printer and I will be able to use up the remains of the black ink in the old printer until it has run out.Not wanting to waste anything.

NOT SO, it appears that I am blocked from printing on my old printer by HP, despite this being a printer that I own with HP ink cartridges. Is this correct that I can no longer use my old printer at all or am I missing something??

Feeling very ripped off.

The above is one of the biggest misconceptions regarding the Instant Ink program.  When you sign up for the Instant Ink program you are NOT purchasing ink, you are purchasing a subscription to a set number of pages per month.  The ink is supplied, but remains the property of HP and must be returned if you cancel the program in accordance with the terms of service.  See sections 5.d and 9.c of the terms of service here.

You can still use the printer after canceling the service but will need to replace any Instant Ink cartridges with retail cartridges.
