Brand new instant ink Black cartridge that came with new printer was printing wonky. Removed cartridge, cleaned cartridge with tissue paper, works fine, but the printer now says “Non HP Instant Ink cartridge installed“. What should I do?

Btw, I did try the printer cartridge clean from the menu twice and that didn’t work. Then I removed the cartridge manually to clean it.

Hi @Davebenham,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are getting an error message “Non-HP Instant Ink cartridge installed“ on your HP DeskJet 2755e All-In-One Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware

My printer has been working fine for month with HP Ink cartridges installed.  Today I printer a few documents with no problem, and and sent another document to the printer and it doesn't printer.  Printer message says "Non-HP Ink Cartridges Installed", which is incorrect becuase the cartridges are HP Brand Ink.  This is really annoying.

I have rebooted the printer and my computer, and done a printer power off cycle as described on this forum, and still not working.  Firmware is up to date.  How do I fix this?

I had already tried all the things in your response before I posted to the forum.  Firmware is up do date, i did the power drain procedure multiple times.  I have tried removing and reinstall the ink cartridges.

This is absurd I am having this problem, printer worked fine with these ink cartridges for months, 2 days ago i printed a document and 2 minutes later i try to print another document and now the printer says I have "non HP Ink",  the problem is I do have HP ink.  I used to have respect for HP products but the company seem more interested in running a printer ink mafia than allowing people to use their products without being harassed by a buggy product.
