I have been on the instant ink program for a couple of years.  Printer out of black ink.  I thought the program monitored and automatically sent cartridges when getting low.  Do you have to check your cartridge yourself.  Been about a year since I got the last black cartridge.  The others have been received in plenty of time.\

You are correct --

You should not have to check

and

Ink should be delivered after the printer notifies the service that supplies are depleted and it's time for a shipment to be sent.
