HP Photosmart 5514
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Purchased HP printer years ago. Warranty expired 2018. It’s brand new. Set up went fine two weeks agountil I realized I didn’t have the 4 ink cartridges, so I got online, researched if cartridges are still available, ordered and installed. Error message: Use SETUP Cartridges that came with your printer. Have I ruined a brand new/old printer? Can I remove the cartridges I installed and replace with SETUP Cartridges? Are the SETUP Cartridges still available? Obviously I’m not very tech savvy, but I’m trying!  Can anyone out there help?

@Darcelle, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • The ink cartridges that go with the printers are setup ink cartridges that are designed to initialize the printer.
  • These ink cartridges are not available at local stores.

We can try to perform a reset on the printer to bypass the use of setup ink cartridges so that you may use the regular HP ink cartridges.

I have sent you a private message with the reset instructions. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
