I have an Instant Ink account already for my printer at home. I bought a printer for school and I have it set up and it is printing fine. However, when I try to enroll this printer in my current Instant Ink account I get the following error message, "Your HP+ printer can’t be claimed here. This is a new printer that needs to be set up using the HP Smart software or app." I have a claim code and everything but it won't go past this step.

@mrvb, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
HP+ enabled printers are different from stock printers. For more info, refer to this document.
You get 6 months of free ink if you activate HP+ during the printer setup (within 7 days of setting up the printer).
You may download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or Play store/App Store.
You also get exclusive support if you own an HP+ printer. Click here.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
