Some weeks ago, on my recommendation, a friend of mine purchased an HP inkjet printer because I had told him that the instant ink option was a good one.

On its arrival from Amazon I was enrolled to help him set it up, which I did and it worked fine for a day or two. However there was an issue with either his laptop or his broadband service and we failed to register this printer with HP instant ink despite several attempts.

I was quite frustrated and invited him to bring the printer to my home and we tried to register it for instant ink. This met with total failure despite my broadband being a fibre optic fast service.

After much frustration trying to get in touch with HP in the UK and being involved with the totally useless chat assistant whose only purpose it would seem is to direct customers into ever decreasing circle, we eventually managed to set a call back and spoke to a very nice guy named Marco who incidentally was from Serbia. Marco tried very hard to help, over a period of some hours but eventually stated that he had spoken to someone who told him the problem was a system fault at HP which would not let them recognise certain elements of the email ID.

He asked me to call back, I said I would prefer if he called me back when the situation with HP was resolved, and he agreed to do this. I was given the case number [Personal Information Removed] and settled down to wait for the issue to finally be resolved.

Of course there was no call back, and HP seem to deliberately make any genuine contact with a living person as difficult as possible. The chat system can be accessed but offers only assistance with absolute basic that in my opinion could be resolved by a three year old or failing to resolve an issue direct you into a loop from which there is no escape.

I rather suspect that there are no humans involved in this process at all. The whole thing is operated by an algorithm designed to avoid person to person contact which results in problem solving. There are many such customer service systems these days, but in my opinion the HP customer service system is probably the worse I have had the misfortune to experience.

It is going to be interesting to see if in fact this forum is populated by humans who might respond to this nightmare, or by that useless chat assistant and its related bytes of code.

Waiting with no real optimism for a reply…

My phone is a UK number [Personal Information Removed]

My email is [Personal Information Removed]

These contact details do not relate to the printer in question but are given in case someone might care to respond..

What I expect if there should be a response is to be fobbed off with the excuse that this is posted under the wrong heading or some such nonsense.

There does not appear to be a category for very very frustrated and annoyed HP customer...
