I just bought a used hp8710 printer but can’t use it unless I enroll in hp instant ink. I do not want to enroll because my son is the one to use it. What can I do?

Hi @Mojo110,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer is set up for HP Instant Ink, and it might be locked due to a previously active Instant Ink subscription. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue and start using the printer without enrolling in Instant Ink:

1. Check for Ink Subscription Lock

If the previous owner used the printer under the HP Instant Ink program, the printer could be locked to only use Instant Ink cartridges. In this case, replacing the Instant Ink cartridges with regular HP cartridges (non-subscription ones) might resolve the issue.

  • Remove the existing cartridges and replace them with standard, non-Instant Ink HP cartridges (model HP 952 for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710).
  • Power cycle the printer after replacing the cartridges.

2. Factory Reset the Printer

You can try performing a factory reset to remove any residual settings from the previous owner, including any Instant Ink configuration. Here's how to reset your printer:

  • From the printer's home screen, swipe down to open the dashboard.
  • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Follow the prompts to reset the printer.

This process will return the printer to its original factory state, which might disable any Instant Ink-related restrictions.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
