so i went to apply for the offer of ink for 3 months and was willing to sign up and pay for it but my area is not on the list of postal addresses? i live on the isle of Lewis western isles postcode hs1. any body else had this issue? how do i get this sorted? surely this should be an offer to all of the uk and not just certain areas. even shetland was on the list just not western isles or the isle of lewis.

In my opinion, yes, it is possible that one or more regions withing a country are not included.
How could that be?
We have places in the USA that are reachable only by walking a ways, flagging down a passing train, and then into town. True - The description is extreme - the example is meant to illustrate the point that not every community is marketable for ink or other services for one or more reasons.
Market, location, and profitability likely impacts where service is made available as does the printer model.
What to do?

Start
The offer is perhaps for a three month trial to HP Instant Ink subscription service.
To get the trial, you must sign up, select a plan, and commit to the print-by-page subscription model.
An HP Instant Ink subscription is a contact for service - ink is included in that service.
The trial is a suspension of the monthly plan costs during the trial period.
There is no extra cost for ink.
After the initial Ink Kit is mailed out, ink is sent (only) when the printer notifies the service that ink is depleted and a shipment is needed.
All ink activated by the plan and all ink sent to you works as along as the trail / service is active.
and
Subscription / Instant Ink remains the property of HP and should be returned to HP at close (termination) of the service contract.
Instant Ink is an excellent service for those who print regularly, print high-density documents or artwork, or perhaps print lots of homework. For example, those who benefit the most include Teachers, musicians, writers who like hard copy, large families , small business offices, community centers, churches, and others who love -- or need -- to print on paper.
