Hi @mikegoldsworthy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're trying to set up your HP printer, and it's asking for a code. In general, HP printers may ask for a code during the setup process to ensure secure communication between your computer or mobile device and the printer. Here are a few steps you can follow to set up your HP printer.

Check the Printer Display:

  • Look at the printer display for any instructions or prompts. It might provide information about the code or guide you through the setup process.

User Guide or Documentation:

  • Refer to the printer's user guide or documentation that came with the printer. It often contains step-by-step instructions on setting up the printer, including any codes required.

Printer Screen Instructions:

  • If the printer has a touchscreen, navigate through the on-screen menu. It might prompt you for a code or provide options to connect to a network.

Wi-Fi Setup:

  • If you are setting up a wireless connection, the printer might ask for the Wi-Fi password rather than a code. Ensure you have the correct Wi-Fi password handy.

HP Smart App:

  • Consider using the HP Smart app, which is designed to make the setup process easier. You can find it on your app store (Google Play or Apple App Store) and follow the instructions within the app.

Reset the Printer:

  • If you're having trouble and have tried unsuccessfully, consider resetting the printer to its factory settings. Refer to the user guide for instructions on how to do this.

If you provide more specific details about the model of your HP printer and where exactly you are getting stuck, I might be able to offer more targeted assistance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
