HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

The last firmware update is locking out 3rd party ink cartridges.  I am trying to sign up for Intant Ink Service.  It's telling me my printer wont connect automatically so it wants me to enter a printer code, but the catch is, it won't print the page with the code, because it's locking out the cartridge.  I tried the work around where it's the first part of the printer's email address, but it won't aquire or display an email address for the printer no matter what I do.  Please help!

Thanks

Hi @dpd901,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To complete your HP Instant Ink sign-up, you will need to enter your printer's unique code. Here are the steps to find your printer's code.

  • Make sure your printer is turned on and connected to the internet.
  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Click on the "Printers" tab in the app.
  • Select your printer from the list of available printers.
  • Click on "Settings" or "Printer Settings."
  • Scroll down to the "Web Services" section and click on "HP Instant Ink."
  • Your printer code will be displayed on the screen.

If you are unable to find the code using the above steps, you can also try printing an information page from your printer. The code should be listed on the page under the "Web Services" section.

Once you have your printer code, you can enter it during the HP Instant Ink sign-up process to complete your enrollment.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
