Hi @hardship2023,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with a newly installed black ink cartridge in your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 Series printer, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

  1. Check Cartridge Installation:

    • Ensure that the black ink cartridge is properly installed. Make sure it's securely snapped into place.
    • Check for any protective tapes or covers on the cartridge that might need to be removed before installation.
  2. Run Print Quality Diagnostic:

    • Most printers have a built-in diagnostic tool that can help identify and fix print quality issues. Consult your printer's manual or navigate to the printer settings on the control panel to find and run a print quality diagnostic.
  3. Clean the Printhead:

    • Your printer may have a printhead cleaning option in the settings. Run a printhead cleaning to remove any clogs or dried ink that might be affecting the black ink flow.
  4. Check Ink Levels:

    • Verify that the black ink cartridge has sufficient ink. You can usually check ink levels through the printer software on your computer or directly on the printer's control panel.
  5. Restart the Printer:

    • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication or software issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  6. Update Printer Firmware/Drivers:

    • Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Visit the HP support website and download the latest firmware and drivers for your printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
