how to do I find out when I need ink and what color to change

To check the ink level on the printers control panel swipe down to open a menu and touch the ink level indicator icon ( looks like a droplet). The printer will inform you when any of your ink cartridges is close to empty and will stop printing when any of the ink cartridges get empty so don't wait for that.
