Hi @holman22,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is indicating that you need to pay for services despite using brand new ink cartridges, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges you bought are compatible with your printer model. Sometimes generic or off-brand cartridges can cause issues.

2. Remove and Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Turn off the printer, open the cartridge access door, and carefully remove the cartridges.
  • Check for protective tape or seals that might still be on the cartridges. Remove any that are present.
  • Reinstall the cartridges securely and close the access door.

3. Reset the Printer:

  • Power off the printer, unplug it from the wall for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

4. Run Ink Cartridge Check:

  • Use the printer's control panel or software to check the ink levels and ensure the cartridges are recognized.

5. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for any available firmware updates for your printer on the HP support website. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues.

6. Disable HP Instant Ink (if applicable):

  • If your printer is enrolled in the Instant Ink program, it might not recognize non-Instant Ink cartridges. You can try disabling the service through the HP Smart app or the printer’s settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
