"Printer Offline" eror

I get "Printer Offline" message from HP Smart, and I'm unable to scan from that app. No trouble printing, and I can scan from the Windows 10 control panel. My concern is whether my printer is communicating with Instant Ink. The automated screens say I have plenty. of ink, but I can't check the ink from the utility. I've power-cycled everything many times but it still says Printer Offline.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. 


Try updating the HP Smart app.


If the issue still persists, try re-installing the app. 


1) In Windows, search for and open Apps & features.


2) Click HP Smart in the list of apps, and then click Uninstall.


3) Restart the computer and then go to HP Smart (in English) to get the app from the Windows Store, and then follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the app.


Also, have you checked you HP Instant Ink account page? Your Instant Ink account page will have notifications if there are any issues with the account or recent cartridge shipment, it will even provide solutions on how to fix the issue. You may log in to your HP Instant Ink account page from here.
