I have instant ink account but never received a replacement for the color cartridge. I replaced with store bought, now it shows cartridge error on the instant ink site and won't send a new cartridge.

Have you canceled your instant ink program? If not, If you have an instant ink cartridge on your printer, remove it and install only store-bought HP regular cartridges.
You may also refer to this document if that does not fix the issue.
Also, I would need a few details of your instant ink account. I've sent you a private message with further instructions.
