I have just enrolled in this plan and got my first set of cartridges. Recently, I replaced 3 of the 4 cartridges with my own purchased HP ink and they will last for a while. Now, my printer indicates that I soon need to replace magenta. My question is: will I be charged under the subscription when I only use one out of the four instant ink cartridges?

Yes, if there are *any* Instant Ink cartridges the pages printed will count toward your Instant Ink usage. It may be better for you to remove all retail cartridges once the Magenta runs out and save them for later. If you ever cancel the Instant Ink subscription you will need to replace the Instant Ink cartridges with retail cartridges.
See here for information on how to store opened cartridges.
