Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We have gone up from 6.0.5 to 7.3.3 of RGS and a feature we had before is not working as before and was wondering if there is way to fix this.

 In the RGS 6.0.5 rgreceiverconfig we had before;

## Allow receiver to display the menu bar.

Rgreceiver.IsMenubarEnabled=0

## Enable the Toolbar (a.k.a. Menubar) to automatically display when

## the cursor is near the top edge of the Remote Display Window.

Rgreceiver.IsAutoMenubarEnabled=0

Rgreceiver.IsAutoMenubarEnabled.IsMutable=0

This made the menu being hidden for users when they logged on to a Linux client and with hotkeys + H the users could bring out the menu if needed.

With the new version only the first setting is available. If we set Rgreceiver.IsMenubarEnabled=0 the menu is not visible when logging on but you cannot make it visible even through hotkeys + H. If we set it to 1 the menu is visible directly when they log on and you can hide it with hotkeys + H.

But, the number of users really using the menu is limited and having it shown for all users every time they logon is a behavior we don't want, for one because it hides the menus in Linux. The users who needs to use the menu should be able to get them but the majority never needs to use them.

So, is there a way to have the menu hidden when logging on and to get it visible through hotkeys or having the menu in minimized from start?

Researched, and found  out this is a known issue in 7.3.3.  A defect was created, and will be fixed in a future release of RGS.  RGS 7.4.0 is the next release but the fix will not be in this release.   However, fix will be about 6 months out.   If you need this to be escalated, please create a case with HP support.  See below on how to start this process.

HP provides support for RGS on non-HP hardware as long as the customer has purchased a license to use RGS and meets the minimum requirements to use RGS. Hello.  RGS 7.3.3 is very different from 6.0.5.  Did you do an upgrade from 6.0.5 to 7.3.3 or did you uninstall 6.0.5, and then install 7.3.3 on your receiver?  So you mention Linux, where version are you using (RHEL 6.x, 7.x?, SUSE?)  Are you using Windows on your receivers, if so what version and build number.

In the folder where RGS is installed, you can launch the receiverConfigApp.exe.  Under General you can make the Display borderless, snap the remote display, or enable/disable the Window Toolbar.  You can also do the same in the rgreceiverconfig file, also located in the same folder where RGS is installed.

Would like to see if we can replicate the behavior with your receiver if you could provide us with the make and model (non-HP hardware is fine), and the OS version and build number.  What is your sender, OS version and build number.

I have attached the RGS 7.3.3 User Guide just in case you need it.

Hi,

If clients have the old 6.0.5 installed we do a removal of the old version before installing the new 7.3.3 version. But this behavior have also been seen on computers that only has had the new 7.3.3 installed (a clean installation).

The senders are RHEL 6.9 and the receivers are Windows 10 64bit Version 1703 OS Build 15063.608.

All our clients with the receivers are Dell computers. I have tested the behavior with a workstation computer with a dedicated graphics card and one with an integrated graphics chip and the behavior is the same. The computers tested are;

  • Dell T7500 workstation with a NVIDIA Quadro 5000 with 340.66 driver version.
  • Dell Optiplex 7020 with Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 with 10.18.15.4281 driver version

Regarding the settings, our setup is just like your image. I have included our configuration file in case you want to try it out.

If you need any more information, don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for the information.  I will see if this is a known issue, and if so, if it was fixed in RGS 7.4. which will be releasing very shortly.  If not a known issue, I will see if I can reproduce today.

Hi,

ok, we have found a small workaround to why some users want this.

If they have one screen they won't see incoming e-mails and messages because they are hidden behind the full screened RGS session. By pressing Shift + Space and release space but continuing to hold shift you can with the mouse grab the window and move it just a bit to the left or right and get the Windows taskbar  to be visible.

It's not the cleanest solution but it will suffice for the time been.

Thanks for all your help and fast response!

You are most welcome.  I did add notes to the existing defect that a customer ran across this defect.  This will usually help aid in getting this fixed sooner rather than later.

Update on the defect.  That was for a Linux receiver and not a Windows receiver.  I opened a new defect but today I had time to test on 7.3.3 with a RHEL 6.9 sender (HP workstation) and a Win 10 receiver (same build and version, HP workstation) and it worked properly.  I had to uncomment the property:

Rgreceiver.IsMenubarEnabled =0

Restart my receiver, made the connection.  Logged in, then performed LeftShift key down, space bar down, space bar up, then H.  It unhid the menu.

Let me know if that is what you tried.

Thanks!

One more update on the Setup Mode + H hotkey.  It is resizing the window when I use the sequence initially, then when I hid the menu it puts the window back.  I am getting this fixed as it should not resize the window.

I tested RGS 7.4.0 Receiver, and the SetupMode + H hotkey works properly.  The window does not resize, and it unhides and hides the menu.  I tested with a 7.4.0 sender but did not try with the 7.3.3 sender.  It is on the receiver side, so updating to 7.4.0 receiver should fix your problem.
