RG Sender 7.5.0.15654
Linux

Hello,

I have a sender machine that is a z640 workstation on Centos 7.5, with a Quadro M4000, nvidia driver 410.73, and sender version 7.5.

When my windows reciever that is also on 7.5 connects, both monitors are black but I can still move the cursor around as normal.

If I run an nvidia-smi, I can see the rgsender process. If I change the Xorg to a single monitor setup, it works as normal.

If I run a tail on both reciever and sender logs, they look as follows -

Is your Z640 headless or have a monitor attached? If using monitors on the sender, is it also connected to dual monitors, or just the receiver?  Since the HP 350 G2 is a notebook, are you using a docking station or is the dual monitor setup the notebook plus one monitor?  Could you provide your xorg.conf file for your sender?  If you would prefer not to share that here in the forum, let me know and I will reach out to you in a private email.

Hello Kelly,

Thanks for the response. The z640 is a headless workstation. Yeah sorry the reciever log from the HP 350 G2 is a notebook wasnt a great test. Here is a reciever log that better matches the current setup. The reciever is a dual monitor setup -

Hello,

I am going to try your xorg file with the following section removed.  Found this is a reference material that I have.

#If you are using RHEL version 7 or later,  the following line s are not necessary.
# Begin HP Remote Graphics Software
Section "Module"
# HP Remote Graphics Extension
Load "rge"
# extmod recommended for preventing XI D overflow.
Load "ext mod"
# Ensur e X.o r g d e fa ults a r e lo a d ed
Load " glx "
Load "dbe"
Load "record"
End Section
# End HP Remote Graphics Software
# Begin HP Remote Graphics Software
Section " Extensions "
#I f you are usin g RHEL 7 or later, leave this line out.
Option "Composite" "Disable"
End Sectio n
# End HP Remote Graphics Software

Hoping to have an answer for you on Monday, just wanted to update you with what I am going to try and possibly provide you with a modified xorg.conf file if that does not work.

I work on the behalf of HP.

Hello Kelly,

Thanks for the update. Just to let you know, I have messed around with the xorg.conf and specificlly the HP Remote Graphics Software section. I have commented out Option "Composite" "Disable" section and even the  HP Remote Graphics Software section entirely. None of it makes a difference.

I have also messed around with the virtual screen size in the Screen section to see if any size work. Again it makes no difference, both screens are still black with a cursor.

Thanks

Would like to you try something with your xorg.conf file after consulting with our Linux team.  If this does not work, we have been building another xorg.conf file that I should be able to share with you tomorrow should this not work.  We are testing it here to make sure it will work with dual display receiver and a headless sender.

    • Noticed that in this user's Xorg.conf that she/he has the older extensions directive to "disable" the "composite" extension.  For RHEL 7.x systems (that use Gnome3), the display server will definitely want/need compositing (and since compositing support has been added to newer versions of RGS,, you could probably remove this and be okay).
    • My guess is that after you do this, you may get a desktop.  (This would also explain - if this was the case - that if customer went from RHEL 6.x to RHEL 7.x, the changes to Gnome2 and Gnome3 (respectively) allowed for compositing "off" (G2) and the need for compositing "on" (G3).  Hence, breakage.
    • Try removing or deleting this section of the Xorg.conf and see what happens

Hi Kelly,

These are the variations that I have tried. None have worked im afraid -

1 -

# Begin HP Remote Graphics Software
#Section "Extensions"
# Option "Composite" "Disable"
#EndSection
# End HP Remote Graphics Software

2 -

# Begin HP Remote Graphics Software
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection
# End HP Remote Graphics Software

3 -

# Begin HP Remote Graphics Software
Section "Extensions"
# Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection
# End HP Remote Graphics Software

This machine was build from scratch. It may be that I am missing a package but I am not certain...

I am currently using Gnome 3 - Classic version. But I have also tried KDE.

<gnome-version>
<platform>3</platform>
<minor>22</minor>
<micro>2</micro>
<distributor>GNOME.Org</distributor>
<date>2017-08-06</date>
</gnome-version>

Many Thanks

It could be an update issue.  However, we are still working out the final kinks in our xorg.conf which is being designed to talk to a headless sender with a dual screen receiver.  Hoping to pass that along to you.  We have just hit a few snags.  Will upload the xorg.conf file once we have confirmed that it works as expected.
