Although I ended up getting another HP printer with an adjustable tray, this photo tray is spring loaded and squishes the 4x6 paper, again making it unable to feed properly. My fix was to cut a piece of cardboard 4 x 6 and placing it in the tray keeping it just wide enough to fit the photo paper I have ( i just have to watch the paper level closely so it doesnt grab that cardboard). This seems to have resolved the issue for using the non HP brand photo paper i have in stock. I'm still shaking my head over this whole 10x15cm which is NOT 4x6 inches.

I have noticed there are several places to change print properties/paper tray, you have to change them all to "photo tray" from the drop down menu on each one of them, if there is a yellow triangle find a drop down to correct the tray and paper size. Depending on the program (I use paint = preferences, i choose advanced to change paper size), there are a couple of places to change the tray. If i dont find every one of the tray options, the printer will not print.

I'm using a Mac and had same probs as everyone else. Over 5000 views on this page so obviously there's a problem. I don't think it matters which computer type you're using.
All I did was fill the 4x6 photo paper tray, removed all the regular 8.5x11" paper and selected "Photo Tray" from the "Feed From" box. See screenshots below.
DON'T TRY TO REMOVE A TRAY DESPITE WHAT THE ONLINE INSTRUCTIONS SAY! The instructions above are terrible. Perhaps the HP people posting here should put their hands on their products before posting incorrect instructions that could lead people to accidentally damaging their brand new printer! Ugh!

i loaded 4x6 photo paper exactly as directed and keep getting the message "load paper and select OK"
when I load the 8 1/2 x 11 paper in the paper tray with the 4x6 photo paper, it prints on the 8 1/2 x 11

Just checking, but did you specify in your printer settings (before clicking print) which "Paper Source"? I only had success when taking it off automatic and using "Photo Tray". It was very quirky tho.

Did you resolve the problem with loading 6x4 paper? I have the same problem here with a 5740, it is unbelievable that a printer designed for 6x4 paper will not accept 6x4 paper, it bends up in the middle and is not accepted by the printer.
