My printer has stopped working due to third party ink cartridge. I have been using this cartridge for a while without any problem but this error message has now appeared and I can't find a solution anywhere

The HP 8500 never had the firmware issue, therefore no firmware fix.  It appears your 3rd party cartridge has failed.

Try the trouble shooting here for this error.  What happens when you replace the cartridge with a HP cartridge?

I expect what would happen if I inserted a HP cartiridge is that the printer will work. However, I do not want to use a HP cartridge.

I saw references elsewhere to firmware that will fix this problem but have not been able to find it

Thank you. I replaced the cartridge with another of the same brand. Got warning about non-HP ink then printer cleaned print heads and voila, I'm back in business and printer is working again.

Thanks very much for your help.
