My printer hasn't been printing in black ink since since less than a year after I got it.  At some point, I did some readjustment and now it only prints the outlines of anything in black (letters, barcodes, etc.).  Is there a way to fix this or should I finally ditch HP and go with another brand?  Colors print fine.

I have gone through your Post and I understand your concerns

 

Try cleaning the printhead and check if that helps

 

  1. Load letter or A4, unused, plain white paper into the paper tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, press the Down Arrow to select Tools, and then press OK.

  3. Press the Down Arrow to select Clean Printhead, and then press OK. The printer cleans the printhead, and then prints a printhead test page.

  4. Review the print quality on the printhead test page.
