Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I printed a text document and the sheet came out blank.  I tried printing a card from Hallmark Card Studio and the black ink would not print.  Both HP cartridges were low so I replaced them with HP cartridges, but the same thing happened.  I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor and cleaned the printer heads...nothing changed.  I printed the test page and only two of the three black rectangles printed. The darkest one did not print.  What can I do?

I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having printing issues on your HP Envy 7640 printer. I'll be really glad to help you with this,

 

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Are you able to make a copy from the printer?

Have you tried to use one cartridge at a time?

 

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

 

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

Next thing, try to use one cartridge at a time and check if it works.

Thank you very much.  I did the unplug routine 3 times.  After each routine I ran the align cartridge and clean cartridge processes.  I then put the black cartridge in only and aligned and cleaned it seperately.  I then put the color cartridge back in and aligned the the printheads and the print quality is back to where it should be.  It went from no black to solid black.  Thanks again!
