HP Photosmart 7520
macOS 10.14 Mojave

The printer was printing fine until 3 days ago. We have installed Mojave 10.14 several months ago and got a new router 6 months ago so they seem unrelated to this problem. Power outages that have occurred in the last month did not affect the printer. We have a generator that powers the office but there is a short switch over moment. I have tried cleaning the cartrides and aligning and also put in a new black cartridge although the cartridge that was in there was 3/4 full. I can print with the photoblack but that is an expensive work around.

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve black not printing on your Photosmart 7520.  Go through the steps in order.  In step 10 I would suggest removing the black cartridge.  Turn it over and examine the area around the ink port.  There are four orange plastic spots, left over from the protective cap.  Make sure these are flush with the cartridge body, if not carefully trim them flush.  If the plastic nubs protrude they can prevent the cartridge from seating properly.  Before replacing the cartridge in the printer dribble a few (maybe four) drops of hot water into the ink port in the printer and two drops into the ink port on the cartridge then snap the cartridge back in position.

I have tried 15 steps now including the manual cleaning of the printhead. It did look like the nubs were not flush and I did trim them. I also used the drops of hot water. Now the printhead is clean but I can't get rid of the error message Ox610000f6 refer to printer documentation so I can' clean the printhead with the automated tool to see if it will work after that.

It seems the only answer to the problem with this Photosmart 7520 printer is to get a new printhead. i turned it off and on several times as suggested in the list of troubleshooting steps but the error message continues. The virtual chat states that error Ox610000f6 means the printer needs service and did not suggest any other steps to take.

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve the printhead error.  I would suggest removing the printhead and cleaning the electrical contacts as shown in the document.

I had thoroughly cleaned the print head and the error message continued. The printer is about 6-7 years old so we opted to get a new inkjet HP 7855. We are very pleased with it. We considered a laser printer but found that printing pictures would be cumbersome and not as good quality as the inkjet. HP’s instant ink program is great because the new printer is able to send information about when the ink is getting low. The ink is then sent out to be there before needed. It isn’t sent until the ink is getting low so no automatic shipments at certain intervals that might be too much. It is tailored to the individual. This fits our needs so well since the store is 30 minutes away from us. Buying a new print head would have cost 1/3 of the cost of a new printer so we decided to go for the new one. Thanks for all the help! It was worth trying to save the 7520!

Sorry we could not get the Photosmart 7520 working, but it sounds like you will be happy with the Envy Photo 7855.  The Instant Ink program is especially cost-effective when printing photo's, since a full page photo print counts the same as a simple text page even though it uses much much more ink.

One slight correction - cartridges should be sent when the calculated levels are below a two-month supply.  For example, if you are signed up for a 100 page per month plan the shipment would be triggered once your ink levels get below that required for 200 pages.
