C5180
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Followed all of the online troubleshooting guides but my C5180 still claims to have a paper jam and instructs me to remove the back cover.  Is there a bypass switch?

If I have to trade it in, what's a suitable replacement?

Does HP have a recycle program for unopened 02 ink cartridges?

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Photosmart C5180 printer. I understand that you are getting paper jam issue and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Perform hard reset on the printer.

  • Remove the power cable from the printer when it is turned on.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30secs.
  • Connect the power cable to the printer and directly to the wall outlet.
  • Turn on the printer.

Click here and follow the document to fix this issue.

If that does not work, please contact HP Phone support for further assistance on this.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

Sigh, Sandytechy 20.... It lulled me into thinking it worked.  I went through the procedure you suggested.  It cycled on and seemed to find.  I held down OK and help to print a test page...and it started to print!...until about 1/2 way the first page of the test.  It stopped and is flashing the Clear Paper Jam error...to clear the back shoot.

I tried the procedure again...this time it went directly to the error on restart.

Sorry, I tried,

Thanks for the reply.

Superb job on trying the different steps to isolate the issue.

It seems to be a hardware issue.

I request you to contact HP Phone support for further assistance on this.

Cheers.
