can the printhead be replaced in a 6520 photosmart printer?

Printhead in PS 6520 is not removable..

The print head is not replacable on this printer. May i know what is the issue that you are having?

if you have a printhead rejection error than you can follow this document.

No ink prints and I have tried all the HP suggested fixes. So thought problem must be printer head.

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve black not printing on your Photosmart 6520.  

 

If the standard troubleshooting did not resolve black not printing I would suggest removing the black cartridge.  Turn it over and examine the area around the ink port.  There are four orange plastic spots, left over from the protective cap.  Make sure these are flush with the cartridge body, if not carefully trim them flush.  If the plastic nubs protrude they can prevent the cartridge from seating properly.  Before replacing the cartridge in the printer dribble a few (maybe four) drops of hot water into the ink port in the printer and two drops into the ink port on the cartridge then snap the cartridge back in position.  

 

It may also help to manually clean the printhead as described in the post here. 

 

I have also seen cases where leaving the printer overnight after the cleaning cycles allows black to recover.

 

If none of the above restores black printing your printer will likely require repair or replacement.

Tried all of what you suggested, must be able to replace printer head? Where do I order a new head from? Are their instructions to install new printer head? Thanks

you cannot replace the printhead on theis printer. the printhead assembly is fixed.

If printer head can't be replaced, then what repair can be done if the problem is the printer head. Sounds like only action is to get a new printer?

The printhead is not user replaceable, HP can replace the printhead.  It may or may not be cost effective to repair. 

 

I suggest you contact HP:  From a post by Sunshyn2, to contact HP Support see the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:


Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone number
 
Case number and phone number appear.

 

If this is not a viable option and the alternative is to toss the printer you might take a look at the various YouTube videos related to this issue.  Some folks have managed to remove and repair the printhead.  Be aware that the result is often damaged printers, be careful, especially pay attention to the encoder strip.
