Hello.

I am having difficulty getting my printer added to my network. I have tried through the printer setup and through HP Easy Start and neither seem to be working. The printer will find my network but then is unable to connect? And on HP Easy Start it cannot find my printer. I would appreciate any help! Thank you.

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you unable add your printer to the network.

  • What's the make and model of your WiFi router?
  • Do you have any antivirus software installed on your Mac?
  • Do you have a guest network enabled on your WiFi router?
  • Approximately how far is the printer located from the WiFi router?

Meanwhile:

Could you check for WiFi interference and also perform a ping test using the Mac Network Utility and let me know the results.

Use the printer IP address to perform a ping test, the printer IP can be located by touching the wireless icon on the printer display.

Thanks for your reply.

• Make of router is hitron and the model is CGNVM-2559

• I do not have a guest network enabled on the WiFi router.

• The printer is in my office which is approx. 35 ft from the router (that is in the living room). I have no problem getting WiFi on my computer that is also in my office?

I performed a ping test and it gave me the following error message:

ping: cannot resolve [printer ip address]: Unknown host

Thank you!

Appreciate all your time and efforts.

Connect the printer to the network Manually.

Make sure your network is working correctly and that the printer is ready for the network setup.

Note:

If you are using a wireless router, check your router's documentation or support site to make sure it meets the following requirements:

Check the router band: Many routers can operate in both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz frequency bands, but not all HP printers support both bands. Make sure the 2.4 GHz router band is enabled and broadcasting. If the router broadcasts separate network names (SSIDs) for each band, connect the printer to the 2.4 GHz band SSID.

Bonjour support: HP recommends routers that support Bonjour, Apple's network discovery software. Connecting with Bonjour is the best way to find the printer and support wireless printing.

Use the Wireless Setup Wizard from the printer control panel display to set up wireless communication.

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless).

2. Touch ( Settings ).

3. Touch Wireless Settings.

4. Touch Wireless Setup Wizard or Wi-Fi Protected Setup.

5. Follow the display instructions to complete the setup.

Once the printer is connected to the network.

Then, follow the below steps to remove the printer and add the printer as AirPrint.

Step 1: Remove multiple printers from the printer list

Check for multiple devices in the Printers list, and then remove any extra entries other than one in idle status.

  1. Search the Mac for Print, and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.

  2. Find the printer names that match your printer from the list of devices.

Figure : Printers and Scanner window with multiple names of a printer in the list

Printers and Scanner window with multiple names of HP Photosmart 7520 printers shown in the list
  3. If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list. Leave one 'idle' printer in the list that matches your printer if available and use this printer as the Default printer.

  4. Try printing again.

    • If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting.

    • If the printer remains offline or displays an error, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Delete the existing print queue and add the printer

Remove the printer queue from the list of printers, and then add it again. Doing so creates a new printing session.

  1. Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet.

  2. In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button  to delete it.

  3. Click the Add button .

  4. Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

Figure : Example of the printer selection list

  5. Click Print Using or Use.

  6. Select the name of your printer (if available) or AirPrint.

Your new printer queue displays in the Printers list in an Idle status .

  7. Try printing again.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Have a great day!

Ugh. I still have not been able to connect since receiving this printer for Christmas. I'm not normally this inept at connect new technology! Here's what I don't understand from your most post (and thank you for trying to help me!):

Connect the printer to the network Manually.

Make sure your network is working correctly and that the printer is ready for the network setup.

Note:

If you are using a wireless router, check your router's documentation or support site to make sure it meets the following requirements:

Below is the router settings.

Many routers can operate in two 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz frequency bands, but not all HP printers support both bands.

So make sure the 2.4 GHz router band is enabled and broadcasting.

Print the wireless test report

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, touch (the Wireless button), and then touch ( Settings ).

2. Touch Print Reports.

3. Touch Wireless Test Report

If the test passes,  restore the printer to the original network settings

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).

2. Touch Network Setup.

3. Touch Restore Network Settings. A message appears stating that the network defaults will be restored.

4. Touch Yes.

5. Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.

Then, Connect the printer to the network from the control panel.

You can also connect the printer using a USB cable.

Then,  click on this document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-envy-photo-7800-all-in-one-printer-series/9073159/model/9073... for Changing from a USB to a Wireless Connection.

OMG, it worked!  I spent 2 hours trying to figure this out and two HP chat sessions!  Very clear instructions, even I didn't get confused!
