I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 6978. It will not print black ink. I put a new cartridge in, ensuring the top vent was unobstructed, did a hard reset, ran it through the 3-level print cleaning twice, removed the cartridges, hard reset again, reinstalled cartridges, did the first level cleaning again, replaced the brand new black cartridge with another new black cartridge. Still nothing. At this point, my new color cartridges are nearly empty from doing the test so many times, and neither new black cartridge works. If there's something magic that will make it work, please let me know. I assume I'll have to put in a separate ticket to try to get back the $120 of wasted ink.
