I got my printer and enrolled for instant ink. It was printing fine. The first replacement ink cartridges arrived and I replaced the black one only as it was running particualrly low. After replacing, my printer printed a few pages insanely slowly, then refused to print at all. There's an error message saying 'Cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink' - but I am enrolled..otherwise how did the new cartridges come through?!

I've taken them out and cleaneed them, reset the router / printer, checked my payment details on my account and none of these things have worked, the error message is still displaying. Incredibly annoying as I REALLY need to print right now.... any tips?!

I need to know few details regarding your Instant ink account to help you get the ink cartridge.

Have you checked if the printer is online and if it's enrolled?

If the printer is online and if it's enrolled, then I would suggest here is to update the printer.

In order to update the printer, On the printer control panel - Setup - Printer Maintenance - Update the printer.

Once done, restart the printer and then check.

@JJ1227,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post that you are having issues with your HP Instant ink program. No worries, I'll be glad to assist you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Have you checked if the printer is powered on and its connected to your home WiFi network?

Have you followed the steps suggested from the previous post?

Let’s start by performing a network power drain. Follow the steps below:

Turn off all the devices connected on your network including the PC, Smartphones, printer, modem (if present) and router. Make sure all the devices in the network are turned off / unplugged.

Wait for 2-3 minutes.

Now turn on the modem if present. Wait till all the lights are steady and idle.

Then turn on the router. Again wait for a couple of minutes so that the lights are all steady.

Then turn on the PC and other devices.

If the printer is online and if it's enrolled, then I would suggest here is to update the printer.

In order to update the printer, On the printer control panel - Setup - Printer Maintenance - Update the printer.

Once done, restart the printer and then check.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to login to your HP Instant ink account page and on the top left click on the Notification Icon.

Here it will tell what is the possible cause and what steps needs to be taken in order to fix the issue.

If you are still having the same issue, I would need to know few details regarding your Instant ink account to help you with this issue.

Since the instant ink account details are confidential, please send me the required information via private message.

Hi

I am having the same issue. I  have put new cartridges that were sent to me by HP instant ink and after printing a few pages a message was displayed saying enrol with HP instant -which I have already!

Not sure what to do next ????

@ELLIE17,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Let's try these steps -

1) Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent.
3) With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Wait for 60 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.
5) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware. Refer to this document for steps - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

If you have tried the steps suggested and still getting the same error message, this could mean there may be a problem with the cartridge or with the printer enrollment.

1.Go to Instantink.com and click the link to Sign In, which is located at the top right of the page, or under the 3 horizontal lines if you are on a mobile device.

2.If you are able to log in, then you do have an account.

3.Click the Printer Details link under the printer name to check the serial number of the enrolled printer and make sure it matches the printer you are using.

If you have followed and still having the issue, I would need to know few details regarding your instant ink account to help you get this issue sorted.

I have the same issue, my printer started refusing to print, saying 'This cartridge can only be used in a printer that is currently enrolled in HP Instant Ink.' But I am already enrolled.

I have tried the power drain, restarting, and updating. None worked.

Please help me.

I also have this problem. I've been enrolled in instant ink since July and now it says I can't print. I have done all the updates that have been posted here and I'm still not sure what to do.  When I open my instant ink account it says contacting printer and then can't connect to the printer right now. try again later. I've tried numerous times though and it always says the same thing

Hi @Moonblossom

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

What model printer are you using?

Make sure the printer is connected to the Internet.

Restart the network devices

  1. Turn off the Router, Printer, and the computer/ mobile devices.
  2. Wait for 60 seconds.
  3. Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.
  4. Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.
  5. Turn on the computer/ mobile devices.

Try to login to the Instant Ink account page again and check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
