HP Deskjet Pro L7580

Last week, the printer would not switch on at all, the power supply was OK, but still no printer power. This afternoon, I tried again and the printer motor (Behind the Ink cartridges) is permanently working. The error says Carriage jam, but I cannot find any kind of jam. I have moved the print heads over to the left to make sure they work okand they seem to be free running. The motor is just permanently on, even when I power down the printer from the switch. The display then comes back on again and tells me there is a carriage jam. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it may be?

I have gone through your Post and I understand your concerns

Please try these steps

- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.
- Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
- Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.
- If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so.

Also ensure the printer has the latest Firmware.  Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

That didn't work, unfortunately. The motor running is, I think, the pump for the cartridges? It moves the 4 light grey oval shaped things behind the print cartridges, only visible when the cartridges are removed. The printer stays off when the power is reinstated, but the motor still runs permanently. When I turn on the printer, it tells me to close the print cartridges door, then it tells me the cartridges are missing, them it tells me there is a carriage jam. Is there some sort of control board that is by-passing the on/off switch on the front of the printer?. I just bought 8 new cartridges, which really pisses me off. I could have bought a new printer for that cost.

Are there any other solutions you may have?

Kind regards.....Alan
