Cartridge problem

Deskjet F380
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Whilst cartridge access flap was open and 'black' cartridge removed to be replaced, after a few minutes the cartridge 'holders' moved fully to the right and stayed there. I switched off and re-started the printer, the 'holders' then returned to the central position and I fitted the black cartridge. However, the 'Print Cartridge' light now blinks and I could not print anything. When the access flap is opened and then closed, the cartridge 'holders' can be heard moving and then returning.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I suggest you perform a printer reset and also ensure the Firmware is up to date

- Turn on the printer.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.
- Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
- Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.

Cartridge problem

Hi,

My printer problem is back again.

As you suggested, I reset it and checked that the Firmware was up to date. I then followed all your recommended steps but after powering up etc., the fault is still there i.e. Print Cartridge light is flashing and Number of Copies window shows 'E' although there is plenty of paper in the 'drawer'. And, of course, in this condition I cannot print anything.

This problem all started when I had removed the black cartridge and, after several minutes, the cartridge 'holders' moved from the normal central position fully to the right and stayed there.

Cartridge problem

Hi @rja666

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'm afraid this seems like a hardware issue with the print carriage.

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Also, perform step 1 from this document.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
