Control Panel display just suddenly started going dim on my 3-yr-old Officejet Pro 8600.  Does this mean the printer is dying?  (I realize 3 yrs old is ancient for these inkjets.)

Sounds like a failure.   If you can still read it, keep using it.  If it ever goes out, time for a new printer.

Hi @officerripley,

Welcome to HP Forums,

this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I see from the post that you are having display screen issues on your Office jet Pro 8600 Plus printer. I'll be really glad to help you with this,

Let's start by performing a Hard reset on the printer.

* With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

* Remove USB cable, if present.

* Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

* Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

* Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to check for the latest firmware update, if available for your printer, using this website.

Please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Printers - The Printer Display Is Blank or Black - Click here

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.

Did a hard reset and turned printer back on.  Display Screen still has a gray/white background and objects and printing are hard to read.  Printer is still working, but can't read display settings

Jeet,

I have the same problem -- that the printer display is dim and can't be read.  I tried the trouble-shooting suggested by the Knowledge Base article -- and none of them has worked.

My printer is long out of warranty.  It would be wasteful to replace the printer when the display is the only thing that doesn't work.  Can you explain the cause of the dim display -- so that I can better understand how major a repair would be -- and if it can be repaired?

Thank you.

Hi @ped4600

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

If you have tried a Hard reset and firmware update, but the issue persists, I'm afraid this is a hardware issue with the printer display. There is no setting on the printer to alter the brightness of the printer display. Please contact our HP Support team for Service Options:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Have a great day!
