The first message was asking if I wanted to use color rather than black. I then replaced the black cartridge with a new HP black.  It then gave the famous replay about not being designed to use continuous ink. I downloaded the doctor but had bad feelings that it would not work and it did not print the suggested test page. No answer as to why. I read GeoT and his solution.  I replaced the colored ink cartridges and all is well.  These things are bugs in software/firmware and warn hardware leads to in accurate error messaging. I leave my printer on at all times because it saves ink warming up but maybe the print heads get a little warn with continuous heat. Still, I will always keep my printer on and ready to go.
