Does the HP OfficeJet 5255 have an automatic tray extender?

HP OfficeJet 5255
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought and set up a new HP Officejet 5255 and when printing, the tray extender does not pop out. Isn't it supposed to? If not, this one needs to be returned for a different one.

Extender does not "pop out" and must be extended manually.

User Guide > Page 13

On this model, the extender is not even a tray, it is more likely a little bar on which the paper will balance after being printed.

I have a $300+ Officejet Pro that, regardless of all else, requires the extender tray to be pulled out manually.  Not doing so allows the paper to be printed just fine, even two sided; the printed sheet is then propelled out the front of the printer to float to the floor.  One learns to extend the little drawer or pick up the papers.

So, yes, you likely want a different printer to accommodate "automatic" tray extender.

Observation - NOT to be construed as HP policy or statement:

This is one of those details that you will find in the User Guide for the printer, but perhaps not in the Specifications or sales sheet.  Best to ask / check - the feature might not be all that common in consumer and small office OfficeJet style printers.
