Duplex printing and scanning has stopped working on my hp6830 with the event of macOS Catalina.  HP easy scan has also stopped working.  HPSmart has no option for duplex.

Hi @davidemeritus

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the scanning and duplex printing issue.

HP Easy Scan is currently not fully compatible with macOS Catalina. We're actively working to restore complete functionality. Scan using Apple Image Capture as a workaround.

You may refer to this document for more information - HP Printers - HP Easy Scan Is Not Currently Supported in macOS Catalina

About the duplex printing issue, I'd suggest you -

Try updating the Mac using these steps - Keep your Mac up to date

Update the printer's firmware. Refer to this document for step by step introductions - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

If the issue still persists, try re-installing the HP Smart app.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I have tried everything you suggested, several times, over the last few months and nothing has worked.  It appears that HP has not updated the printer software in several years and it is probably no longer compatible with MacOS.

Try printing using the HP Smart app.

If the issue still persists, add the printer using Apple AirPrint drivers -

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add. Select AirPrint from the Use menu
6.) Try to print.

Let me know how that goes.
