My printer is about 8 months old. I use it infrequently. The ink cartridges are about 3 quarters full. I cleaned and aligned the ink jets but the prints are streaked and unreadable. Is there anything that can remedy this problem?

Welcome to the HP Community

I suggest you do a Hard Reset on the printer

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Use the automated tool to clean the ink cartridges.

  1. On the control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setupicon.

  2. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Printer Maintenance.

  3. Touch Clean Cartridges, and then touch Continue.

A Print Quality Diagnostic page prints.

  4. Examine the Print Quality Diagnostic page.

    • If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage, if necessary.

      NOTE:

If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform both levels of cleaning again.

Try to print.

I am having the same problem on the same type printer and under the same circumstances.  Sometimes I print a lot of photos and the occasional document, but I haven't used it much in the last 3-4 months.  I have just printed a page here and there.  I get lines throughout every photo and regular pages don't print the correct color unless they are black and white; then they are a little light but no lines.  I have gone through the cartridge cleaning three times, doing multiple cleanings every time with no noticeable difference in the lines.  The page that prints at the end of each cleaning shows the farthest left black block has a ragged edge on the left margin so it isn't a solid block.  That persists through every cycle of cleanings.  I have followed instructions to manually clean the contacts on the cartridge and those inside the printer where the contacts meet.  No change.  I have also done a hard reset, including deleting the printer entirely from my computer and reinstalling but that didn't help either.  I'm not sure what else to do though I did see articles about cleaning the printhead; however, I don't know if that's even possible.  I suspect dried ink is the problem because of the infrequent use lately.  The print cartridges are full and since I participate in the instant ink program, I can't just try replacing, and I'm not sure that would help anyway.  Is there a separate printhead I can try cleaning, and how would I do that if so?

OK, I have contacted HP.  They are replacing the cartridges.  We'll see if that works!
