Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi,

My printer will not print in color from any applications, I can get colour on a test page occasionally.

I have followed the following procedure many times and the colour option does not appear in any settings page and I only get black and white. The colour setting or grayscale setting options do nbt appear in the Printer Options, Printer Preferences or any other dialogue box I can find. I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers and software from the HP site.

Procedure followed (taken from previous suggestions by mods)

  •  Programs and Features.
  •  Uninstall.
  • Devices and Printers. - not listed now
  • printui.exe /s - no HP driver present
  • Restart the PC
  • %temp% cleared
  • ProgramData cleared of all HP references
  • Restart
  • New Drivers download from site and installed
  • WiFi install (Not USB)

And it doesn't work - costing me a fortune printing in extra pages 🙂

I've also followed the following from another thread and still no joy:

For now, try these steps:

  • Perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://hp.care/2kcz5os (Step 1: Reset the printer)
  • Then Make 2 copies in color directly from the printer without any communication from the computer.

If it copies in color correctly then uninstall and reinstall the printer software at the root level by following these steps if the operating system is Windows:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, in control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Any ideas this is driving me crazy!

@IainHay, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for the detailed explanation and apologies for the inconvenience caused. This seems like an issue with the print driver. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how. Try printing in color.

Let me know how this goes.
