Envy 7858 won't print text, but prints photos beautifully.

My printer will not print text  and every thing else on the page is light.  However, it WILL print graphics and photos.  I've tried cleaning the cartridges and aligning the heads and it barely helps.

You may have to go a step farther and consider replacing the ink cartridges, or at least the black cartridge.

Known solutions, provided in the order to be addressed:

Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues

Graphics / image likely print because multiple colors are used, even to create "black".

Without the actual black ink working correctly, black text may indeed either not work or perhaps look washed out.

I just bought the printer a few months ago and the ink levels are just below 1/4.  Does that matter?

If the solution turns out to be that the ink must be changed, ink level does not matter.

Thirty years ago when I was maintaining our network laser printers at work, we would remove the toner cartridge and give it a good shake before replacing in the printer - this would sometimes give us an extra twenty pages or more from the nearly empty cartridge.  I do not even know whether this is a valid thing to try with an inkjet cartridge - I just replace cartridges when they are low or if they stop working.
